The icing form system

Sharp edges. Smooth sides. No scraping.

The Cake Form kit frosts the cake for you. Stack your layers inside, fill the form with buttercream, chill, and peel away a bakery-smooth finish — even if it's your first cake.

The old way

Crumb coat. Chill. Coat. Scrape. Repeat.

Crumb coat, chill, second coat, scrape, turn, scrape again — and still end up with bulges, streaks, and crumbs dragged through your frosting.

The Cake Form way

Geometry does the smoothing.

The form holds a perfectly even layer of frosting against your cake while it chills. The rigid walls make the sides straight and the edges sharp. You just peel.

How it works

Three steps. Zero scraping.

About 15 minutes of hands-on work. The chill does the rest while you do something else.

Stack and trim 1

Stack and trim

Bake in your usual pan, trim each layer with the included crumb cutter, and stack inside the lined form with your filling.

Fill and chill 2

Fill and chill

Pour softened buttercream or ganache into the gap around the cake. Chill — 30–60 minutes in the freezer, or a few hours in the fridge.

Peel and reveal 3

Peel and reveal

Slide off the form, peel away the silicone liner, and smooth the small seam. Sharp edges, glass-smooth sides. Done.

Works with buttercream, meringue buttercreams, and pourable ganache.

Why Cake Form

Built to delete the hardest parts of cake decorating

No crumb coat. Ever.

The most hated step in cake decorating — deleted from your workflow entirely. The liner keeps crumbs out of the finish coat.

Sharp edges by design

The rigid form makes the sides geometrically straight and the top edge crisp. No skill required.

About 15 minutes hands-on

Save up to 90 minutes of active frosting work per cake. Chill time is passive — the fridge does the finishing.

Less wasted buttercream

You fill a measured gap instead of over-making frosting just to scrape half of it off with the crumbs.

Round AND square

Square corners — the hardest finish to do by hand — come out crisp automatically. Same three steps as round.

Reusable for years

Acrylic form, food-grade silicone liner, stainless steel cutter. Hand-wash, store flat, repeat.

The honest comparison

Frosting by hand vs. Cake Form

We still love a turntable. We just don't think you should need years of practice to get a smooth cake.

By hand (turntable + scraper) With Cake Form
Crumb coat Required, plus a 30+ minute chill None
Skill needed Months of scraper practice Your first cake
Active frosting time 60–90+ minutes About 15 minutes
Sharp edges Sometimes, with practice Every time
Square cakes Very difficult by hand Same 3 steps as round
Buttercream waste High — scraped off with crumbs Measured fill, minimal waste

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with my frosting?

Yes — American buttercream (softened to a thick, pourable, custard-like consistency), Swiss and Italian meringue buttercreams, and pourable ganache all work. Whipped cream and very stiff, cold frosting do not flow into the form. Every kit includes our tested buttercream recipe.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes of hands-on work. Chilling is passive: roughly 20 minutes in the freezer after stacking, then 30–60 minutes in the freezer (or 3–4 hours in the fridge) after filling the sides.

What size pan do I need?

Bake in the same size pan as your kit — a 6-inch kit pairs with a 6-inch pan. The included crumb cutter trims every layer to the exact fit.

Will the sides be perfect straight off the liner?

Nearly — expect one thin vertical line where the liner overlaps. The included finishing scraper erases it in about 30 seconds. We show you how in the quick-start guide.

Is it reusable?

Yes. Hand-wash in warm soapy water, store the liner inside the form, and it will last for years. Not dishwasher-, oven-, or microwave-safe — this is a cold-assembly tool.

How tall a cake can I make?

Each form builds a cake up to about 5 inches tall — three to four standard layers.

How fast is shipping?

Shipping is free on all US orders. Orders are processed within 1–3 business days and typically delivered within 8–15 business days after processing, with tracking emailed on dispatch. Full details in our Shipping Policy.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email a photo to support@cakeform.co within 7 days of delivery and we'll send a free replacement or a full refund — no need to ship anything back.
